About Bindery

What this is

Bindery is a free set of PDF tools: merge multiple PDFs into one, extract pages from a PDF, compress a PDF to a smaller size, and extract clean text from a PDF for pasting into AI chats. It exists for one reason — most online PDF tools make you upload your documents to someone else's server. Bindery doesn't. Every operation runs locally in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib library, so your files never leave your device. For step-by-step instructions, see the how-to guide.

How it works

When you open Bindery, your browser downloads the page and the pdf-lib engine. When you drop in a file, it is read into your browser's memory, processed there, and the result is offered back to you as a download. There is no backend, no account system, and no analytics tracking what you do with the tools.

Honest limits

Password-protected PDFs can't be processed in the browser — you'll need to remove the password first. Compression repacks the file efficiently, but it can't perform miracles: already-optimized files may barely shrink, and we always show you the exact before-and-after sizes so you can judge for yourself.

Independence

Bindery is an independent utility, not affiliated with any PDF software vendor. "PDF" is a file format specification; all trademarks belong to their respective owners.
